Evolution of language and an interesting Hindi remake
My first sight of migrant workers from north India was on 6th January 2001 on a train that was going from Trivandrum to Korba while I got off at Ernakulam to attend a junior’s wedding.
And since then Hindi language has had an interesting mixing with Malayalam and vice versa leading to some funny exchanges with words from both the languages in the same message.
Recently I came across 2 interesting videos within a day’s gap from each other. Here is the instagram link to the first video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWi7bUdD6z2/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
And there is an interesting connection between this one and the other one on YouTube.
The IG video you see is the Hindi-Malayalam mix dubsmash of the cult classic comedy scene from the 2016 Mohanlal film Oppam (Together). In a crime thriller, this is the only comedy scene but the situational comedy is crazy.
And for Malayalis who know Hindi very well, this dubsmash is even more funny.
Now to the connection between the video and the YouTube link I have shared.
Oppam is being remade in Hindi by the same Director - Mr. Priyadarshan about whom I spoke at length last year in a podcast which I will release soon.
This remake stars Saif Ali Khan.
The same week as I came across this dubsmash, I also came across another video where Mr. Alleppy Ashraf spoke about Mr. Elias Eraly the producer of the 1978 Malayalam film Chuvanna Chirakukal (Red Wings) which starred Saif Ali Khan’s mother Sharmila Tagore and how Mr. Priyadarshan introduced Mr. Eraly to Saif on the sets of the Hindi remake and how Saif was very delighted to see his mother’s song clip from the film with background score by the great music composer Salil Chowdhury.
Here’re the links to Mr. Ashraf’s video and Sharmila Tagore’s song from the film:

Eagerly looking forward to the release of the Hindi remake of Oppam to see how this comedy scene has been remade in Hindi.
